I never thought I would end up going to the same school as my sister during the college application process, but now that we are both together at the same university, I cannot imagine it any other way. There are a million perks that come with going to the same college as your sis, and here are a few of my favorites.
1. You head into college knowing 10x more people
All summer your sister will tell her friends about how you will be coming to campus in the fall. Your sister’s friends will suddenly become your friends, and they are just as excited as she is to have you there. Get ready to wave hello to all of them as you head to class.
2. You’ll get the best pointers about classes and professors
She has got the experience and knows which professors are totally awesome, and which ones to steer clear of. She will also know all the coolest classes to take that you never would have heard about otherwise. Ocean life? Count me in.
3. She’ll keep you company when family comes to visit
Having family come to visit is always great, but let’s be honest, it can sometimes be a little overwhelming. Having your sister there means you have an automatic buddy to hang with whenever the fam comes to take you out.
4. She has access to real, non-dining hall food
Completely sick of eating the same dining hall food over and over again? Your sister will have the good stuff, and a quick trip to her apartment means a home-cooked meal consisting of something that is not pizza. If you are lucky, your dinner will turn into an impromptu cookie baking session too.
5. You'll have a lay of the land
After a few weekend visits spent with your sister on campus, you will have a good idea where most buildings are. You will not have to be that awkward freshman carrying around a map the first week of classes, and you just might be able to give someone directions.
6. You have a second, built-in closet
Let’s face it, we all know the real reason we were bummed about our sister going off to college last year was because we could no longer steal from her closet. But, if you two end up at the same school, you get that luxury right back, and can borrow that killer dress whenever you want (as long as she’s feeling generous).
7. She’s a friend whenever you need one
If you are ever feeling down or just need someone to talk to, your sister is there for you. Instead of having to talk to her on the phone or call her up on Skype, you can see her in person, and can be guaranteed to feel a million times better once you do.
8. You get invited to upperclassmen parties
You sister wants to show you off to her friends, which means she will let you tag along to some of those parties you might not have been able to get into otherwise. A great perk for a great time.
9. She tell you about all the coolest places on campus
Your sister knows where that awesome coffee shop is, or that perfect place to study that's not too crowded and has a great view of campus. She will give you the inside scoop, and your friends will be super impressed when you let them in on all these little tricks of the trade too.
10. You’ve got transportation
If your sister has a car on campus, you've got automatic transportation. You are going places girl; say hello to spontaneous trips off campus, including but not limited to my personal favorite, Target.
11. She can give you tips on what sorts of clubs and activities to join
Your sister knows you better than anyone else, which means she can advise you on which clubs would be the perfect fit for you. From Student Government to the dance team, she will give you insight on how you can make the most out of your college experience.
12. You’ve got a great study space if you want to get away
Dorm too loud or library too crowded? Your sister has got you covered. Her apartment is the perfect place to unwind and get comfortable, a space where you can finally get that paper written without being interrupted.
13. You'll have a little piece of home right there with you
College can be an overwhelming process, and we all find ourselves missing home every now and then. Having your sister with you at school makes the whole process a lot less intimidating, and a lot more like home. Going to school with your sister is like going to school with your best friend, and what could be better than that?
