9 Things Your Relatives Will Ask You Over Thanksgiving

By Anna Lee Nabors - Nov 23 2015

1. Have you met anyone special yet?

Grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins, everyone needs to know about your personal life.

2. What are you studying?

You probably have this conversation every time you see each other but it always seems to be new information.

3. Now what is that?

Even if your major is something pretty standard like English or Chemistry your family will still be confused about it. Good luck if you're in something like Urban Studies or Political Economy.

4. What are you going to do when you graduate?

Grandma, I literally started school three months ago.

5. Do you have a  job yet?

Relatives always seem to be really concerned with what you're doing with your time and how well you are preparing for the future.

6. Are you staying out of trouble?

This one is always said sarcastically or with a wink as if they know some secret about what you get up to. It's also followed up with a "when I was your age" story.

7. Have you put on weight? / Have you lost weight?

For some reason, relatives always seem surprised by how you look. Even if you look exactly the same as you did the day you left, they will insist that you've changed.

8. Why don't you call more?

You can never call enough!

9. Are you having fun?

Because, at the end of the day, all they care about is your happiness and that you're adjusting well.
